We won the "Greenest Orca" award last week for being the class that did the most recycling on the first floor. We are very proud of our award and work very hard to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We will be learning a lot more about recylcing at our Earth Challenge Assembly on Tuesday, December 8th presented by the King County Solid Waste Division.

Snakes, and Spiders, and Mice, OH MY!!

What a fabulous Fall Party we had thanks to Room Parents Holly W. and Renee B. We started the morning with Fall Themed Centers including Pin the Eyeball on the Monster and the VERY popular Toilet Paper Mummy Center. After lunch we were joined my Kevin, from A Place for Pets pet store in Burien, and some of his animals. We held guinea pigs, meal worms, a tarantula, mice, snakes, and a parrot. Also a very brave Michael B. held all of them! Thanks again to Roxanne, Holly, Renee, Michael, and Scott for all of their help.

Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Wednesday, October 21st we headed to Thomasson Family Farm and enjoyed a day at their pumpkin patch. We ran through the corn maze, had trike races, played in the barn, pet the farm animals, went on a tractor ride, and of course, picked a pumpkin. A huge thanks to the parent volunteers who came along and enjoyed the day with us!

It's Fire Safety Week in Room 1310!

We are learning all about how to stay safe in case of a fire in kindergarten this week. We were lucky enough to have a visit by the Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department today to learn more fire safety tips. The kinders were taken on a guided tour through the department's "Smokehouse" where they learned what to do if there was a fire in their house. We talked about having practice fire drills at home and the importance of a meeting place outside the house. We then got a chance to explore the fire truck!! Please ask your kinder more about this very informative visit!

We're Headed to Thomasson Family Farm on Wednesday!

We are heading to the Farm next Wednesday, October 21st! So far the weather looks OK but we are going RAIN or SHINE. Please make sure to dress you kindergartener appropriately. Also sending a change of clothes for after the trip might be wise in case we get dirty! :) Please remember to send a 100% disposable lunch that day as well. Looking forward to a fun-filled day at the farm!

Costumes WILL NOT be allowed at school on Friday, October 30th.

Please note this is a correction to my October Newsletter.

"In lieu of the costume parade, we will be holding our classroom Fall Festival Party. The PTSA and school will be sponsoring a fall festival for all students and families Friday, October 23rd. Costumes, games and food will be a part of the school-wide event. Please DO NOT send your child to school with costumes on Friday, October 30th. More information to come on our class party and treats!"

I apologize for the mis-information in the newsletter.

Art in Room 1310

Today was our first day with our art docent, Laura. We talked about Picasso and cubism and did a Picasso inspired art project. The kinders all did an amazing job, and if you can, stop by the room and check out their art. We are really looking forward to the rest of the year with our fabulous art docent!
